What you "be" is who you are. What you "do" can be an extension of that by way of actions and words. By being you state what you want with your life; by actions you state how you are going to get there.

Have yet to read the book, but one decision can lead to a lifetime of regret(s). A mysterious stranger versus the familiar. Experiences like that happen daily. Not only in love but job/career choices, college choices, friendship choices, family choices, etc. Change or stay with the mundane or the safe.

.And yes, the wrong choices can leave a heart burning, perhaps hardened.

How much of the past is in the present in modern day Korea? Traditions and customs?

Lovely to hear that Mysterious Galaxy is alive and well (I spent the 80s in San Diego, mostly in the theater, reading a lot of SciFi in the green room.) I have a love/hate relationship with LA. My stepdad came from one of the old "blue book" Pasadena families. Dangerously conservative and myopic, but they believed in supporting the arts. I have a nephew at Pomona now, developing the same love/hate thing with SoCal intelligensia.

Since the book has not been translated into Korean yet, I have started a reading circle with 55 of my Korean ESL students who are all young mothers. It is called The Honorary Korean Reading Club, and I am the honorary Korean. I am reading This Burns My Heart to them each Sunday from 3-5. We have discovered that the transliteration of Korean words into English is sometimes difficult. One word that confused them all was meot-yanggi on page 8. None of them could understand it until one, who is herself a translator from German to Korean, figured it out. When we changed the spelling to mut-janggi, everyone knew what it was. I think the book would benefit from a glossary. Even though the Korean words are explained, the Korean students sometimes don't understand, as I showed you. Anyway, they love the book so far, which I knew they would. I think it would make a great Korean TV drama, of which I am an officianado. There are enough twists and turns to keep viewers interested for weeks. I am also planning to read it to my blind friend, whom I have been reading to for 46 years. My students would love to meet you when you get back to Chicago if that could ever be arranged. I wrote to Chestnut Street Book Stall to suggest it. Also, today I saw the little article in People Magazine. That's a great coup and will certainly add to your readership. I'm a retired librarian and any time a book is mentioned in People it gets many reserves.
Many good regards from Joan Gross, Wonyoung Park, Sunny Yoo, Jihye Kim, and Jung Eun Kim.

That is awesome--I love Walter Mosley! I'll definitely try to make my way to Book Stall. It's a wonderful bookstore, and it'd great to read or sign stock there. Thank you so much for talking up the book--I really appreciate that! And to answer your question, no sign of a Korean edition yet, but fingers crossed? Thanks again!
